Save all DeskI reports that will be checked into a separate working folder.
Open DeskI Documents Inspector in DeskI of BO XIr2.
Enable macros (if you get the message that the report contains macros).
Use “Select working folder” button and navigate to the folder that contains reports.
Type in a keyword in the “search keyword” box. Use * (asterisk) for all.
Set what will be searched (variables and formulas, data provider objects, SQLs of data providers).
Set whether or not the checked reports will be moved to the files_processed subfolder after the checking.
8 ) Use the “process REP files” button to start the procedure.
When the procedure finishes, there will be up to 2 TXT files in the working folder:
One TXT files (with the name DeskI_Inspector__found_in_formulas.txt) contains all matches found in report variables and formulas and
the second TXT file (with the name DeskI_Inspector__found_in_SQLs.txt) contains all matches found in the reports’ queries DeskI Documents Inspector.zip (93.0 KB)
We are in the process of upgrading to 3.x and running several tests prior to full implementation. I decided to create a test folder, and imported a few reports. I ran the utility in 3.1 SP2 and it works perfectly (even on reports with complex custom formulas). The entire formula is written out in the .txt file.
In addition to the upgrade we are also in the process of implementing a new TMS. Upon completion of the new TMS implementation a new universe will have to be created. Every report in our current universe, will need to be created in a new universe.
This utility will be of GREAT benefit to us. We will be able to quickly see every variable and the code in the custom variables, which will make recreating every report much easier!!
