Universe Documentor (Dwayne's plus a few extras)

Hi all

I have made a few updates to Dwayne’s extremely useful Universe Documentor.

Documents derived table sql
Alias and physical table names for objects and conditions,
textual descriptions rather than coded values for many items.
Linked universe
Additional universe param info.
Conditional formatting to highlight hidden objects.

Cheers, Sandi

So do we start a new topic for this? Or merge it into Dwayne’s topic? I haven’t reviewed the code, just trying to think about how we manage this.

Might be a bit selfish, but I’d prefer a new topic. A couple of reasons. I have an idea that I’ll update my version someday. Plus, I’d rather not have two separate “debugging” discussions mixed in one thread. Someone reports an error, and we have to ask “which version.”

Dwayne Hoffpauir :us: (BOB member since 2002-09-19)

That’s certainly valid and I appreciate your concern. My initial inclination was to keep them as separate topics as well.

Well Dwayne, you have got every right to be selfish - it’s a brill utility.

I have tried to test it as much as I am able - the only exceptions I have received in the last tests have been as a result of errors in the universe which the integrity check didn’t report.

Cheers, Sandi

Dave/Dwayne

Can you hold off till tomorrow please?
One of my developers has said he received an error with the util.
This may be a universe error, but until I know for certain I would rather safe than sorry.
I am just awaiting screenshots of the error now.

Cheers, Sandi

No worries, please post back here when you’re ready. The download is not available here so nobody will be able to download it until it’s released. Only moderators can see attachments in this forum. You’ve probably noticed you can’t even see your own attachment.

Hi Dave

I have just double checked the util with the universe in question and the problem was in the universe after all (again, something not picked up by the integrity check process - invalid month/state on a date object).

So no changes required to the spreadsheet.

A few folk have contacted me over the last few months and I have emailed it out.

I have been usin BOXI Universe Documentor V4 with great success. However due to a company policy I had to upgrade my pc to windows 7 with MS Offcie 2010. Now I am getting the error message “Failure in DocumentUniverse() VBO Project - 430: Class does not support Automation or does not suppot expect interface”. Is there a fix for this? Will this program run in MS Excel 2010? I hope so. If it is not possible, is there another way I can document a universe. The BOE that I am connecting to is XI\R2.

Hi All

Just wondering if anyone has looked into whether it would be possible to document the unx files at XI4?

Cheers,
Sandi

Hi,

There is no SDK in BO 4.0, so very likely the answer is no, it’s not possible.
