Data Integrator platform support (and 32- vs. 64-bit)

Old post about Data Services XI 3 (aka 12.x) is below. For Data Services 4 (aka 14.x), the supported platforms are:

  • Windows 64-bit and 32-bit
  • 64-bit UNIX (AIX and Solaris)
  • 64-bit Linux (RHEL and SUSE)

Consult the BO/SAP Support web site, under Documentation > Supported Platforms, for the latest information.

===================

Data Services XI 3 (the current version at the time of writing, and also known internally as version 12.2), comes in both 32- and 64-bit versions, although the support for 64-bit varies by platform/OS.

[list]* For Windows, DS is a 32-bit application. Like any 32-bit app, it can address 2Gb of memory space. Each DI process can address up to 2Gb of memory, and DI has various ways that you can design your dataflows to distribute processes or minimize memory use.

Even though itÂ’s a 32-bit app, you can run it on Windows 2003 64-bit server. Note you should install 32-bit database connectivity (database clients, ODBC drivers), as 32-bit DI will expect 32-bit connectivity. 64-bit Windows cannot access MS Access databases, at the moment.

So, Windows 2003 Server 32-bit or 64-bit may be used. Consider using 64-bit if you plan to run many dataflows in parallel, since your total job memory footprint may be high.

  • For Linux, DS is available as a 32-bit or 64-bit application. Same conditions apply as for Windows, above. Red Hat and SuSE are supported Linux platforms. 64-bit Linux support was added in DS 12.2 and later.

  • For UNIX, DS is a 64-bit application. Each dataflow running in a job can utilize > 2Gb of memory. AIX, Solaris SPARC, and HP-UX Itanium are the supported UNIX platforms.

Post updated above with latest info.

For those making the transition from 32-bit to 64-bit Windows, be sure to get 64-bit drivers for all of your data sources.
