Migration method for WEBI reports

Hi, guys. What is the migration method for WEBI reports .wid from development to production? Do I need to recreate the .wid reports manually in production? .rep FC reports have a clear migration path, what is the same approach for .wid?

Thanks!!!

See if this helps a little…

Thanks, Andreas. It boils down to exporting universe/reports(WEBI) from development repository to production and repointing the .key file? what about the database connections, and other configurations?

If you keep your universe names the same in the 2 environments, you can migrate them by copying to the Personal docs.

Changing key files in WebI is not practical as it requires you to stop WebI when you do this.

Steve. Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, production universe name is different from development otherwise it would be very confusing for users as to which environment they are connecting to. Given they have different names, what should be the migration path for .wid reports, could you shed more light on this topic?

I am hoping reports on production don’t require manual modification/build. They can be migrated from the development. Lot of big shops, as you might know, have very rigid rules of change management to comply with government standards. Some don’t allow any development modification on production at all. If there is no way to migrate then this .wid reports become almost useless for many companies. Please provide your insight and I welcome other suggestions. This is a very important issue.

Thanks,

Wayne

The main problem you are facing is the two separate security repositories.

The best deployment in most cases is ONE security repository with separate universe domains and document domains for Dev/Test/Production.

There is nothing you can do. It is not confusing for users to use the same name. They are choosing different environments and can have different descriptions. If you choose to keep the names different, then you have to rebuild the reports.

You need to make sure the document domain is of the same name too.
Also that the universe have the same name will help.
The repository can have different names.
