Hi there,
I’m using V6 and love the fact that you can save as xls - however does anyone know if there’s a way you can format the report whilst it’s still in BO so that it’s proberley formated in excel?
The same kind of problem/requirement came in our office also. As per I heard, they saved the data as text files, and then they wrote some specialised COM components which read this text files and converts it in to excel file with the custom format and orientation. Note they are using 5i version of BO.
The DLLs that are used by BO to export data, only export the raw data. The only time BO retains formatting is when you save as an RTF document. In this case, the conversion to RTF will embed the formatting.
Excels import from HTML function will pick up the formatting and retain what was able to export.
The short of it is that you lose the formatting because of the data exchange dlls don’t include formats as part of what gets transferred.
I’m with Steve. I am confused as to what it’s not retaining, format wise.
The only time I’ve seen save as excel goof up the formating in V6 is if you have overlapped some freestanding cells on top of each other, which is entirely possible to do and retain a “visual” format in BO.
Once that is converted to excel however, those cells can not be on top of each other so the conversion utility moves them around.
