SAP BI 4.2 Stable version

Hi,

Currently we are on BI 4.1 SP8 and we are thinking to go on BI 4.2. Currently BI 4.2 SP4 and SP5 both are released. We would like to know which version is more stable; SP4 or SP5. We have heard that there was an issue with SP3.

Can you please suggest?

Thanks,

Swapnil Rodge.

Just updated our QA environment to SP5 P100 from SP3 P2 (we have been running it for over a year, no stability issues).

Had an installation issue with corruption of the BOE warfiles and had to get clean copies from support and redeploy – they say it was a fluke and there are no other reported issues with the install. We’ve just started testing, but so far, so good and nothing major to report.

SP5 has been out for over 6 months, they’ve already released the first patch P100 (new #ing scheme!). If I was updating from an older version, I would go with SP5 to take advantage of all the fixes and enhancements.

We’re on SP04 SP04, issues are:
[:7a3a19fe63]Test Promote in Promotion Manager doesn’t work
[
:7a3a19fe63]Sessions are not released, causing an exhaustion of licensed limit
[*:7a3a19fe63]Unable to create connections in UDT
I wonder if these are fixed with SP5?

Agree. Beeing on 4.2 SP4 patch 5 and notice ramdomly (but too often) such issues when creating / editing connexions on UDT : the application hangs and UDT close… Very annoying.
Sometime, restarting the computer fixe the problem.

Here’s the note with a workaround: https://launchpad.support.sap.com/#/notes/2450665

We are one month on BI 4.2 SP05. We’ve had no major issues.

Agreed, there’s some good extra functionality in there too…

Thank you ! for one a time the workaround worked for me !

Which method did you use?

joepeters :us: (BOB member since 2002-08-29)

method 1

Great, glad it worked.

It doesn’t appear that this is being treated as a bug, so perhaps will workaround will be needed forever?

I added at in the annexes section of my installation document

FYI, we are a few more weeks into our testing of SP5 P100, it’s still stable, but finding lots of bugs in WebI! I’ve opened a half dozen cases in the last couple of days.

A few of the issues so far with:

 • #TOREFRESH error when using merged dimensions and query returns no results
 • filters involving measures not working as previous
 • HTML calendar date picker for query based prompts is appending current time to the date
 • size and padding controls on the toolbar aren’t populating in HTML viewer
 • size control missing from new documents in the HTML viewer
 • pagination issues

Thanks for the update, great information. Somewhat disappointing though!

We’re also planning to upgrade to BI 4.2 from BI 4.1 SP2. It’s a large installation so would prefer some stable version. What would be advisable? Move to directly 4.2 SP5 or go to BI 4.2 SP3? I have heard SP3 is kind of stable

Big difference between SP03 and SP04. We’ve been on SP04 Patch 3 for a couple of months. It’s been pretty stable, except for one bug that causes concurrent sessions to be exhausted.

Thanks.

SAP has advised to upgrade to latest release BI 4.2 SP05 P200. We are bit sceptical though :? Anyone who has been using SP05 P200 would like to share their experience on known bugs etc…
