Document a universe using Excel and the Designer SDK

Hi:

Now that is a new one. I’ve not seen that error before. I suspect something corrupt on your workstation, but there is one thing to try. Could you run the utility on a very small, simple universe, and see if it generates the same error?

I tried small to medium size universes, got same error message every time.

In fact, I downloaded other utilities like WD Scanner, got the same error message once it completes the execution.

The utility is recursive (calls itself as it moves down the folder tree), but if the error persists on a small universe, it eliminates the possibility that you’ve run out of memory.

I have 4 GB of memory on my box. I will try investigate further again.

… and the WID scanner doesn’t even use Designer (I don’t think). Sounds more and more like a local workstation issue, I’m afraid.

Hi Dwayne

I get the same error as well

VBAProject - 430 : class does not support automation or does not support expected interface

Using Excel -2007 and on another PC Excel 2003. Get the same error both ways.

The library is fine, it does use The BOXI one. The compiler highlights the first line of code
Sub DocumentUniverse()

How do I fix this?

Questions for bsekhar1980, meenal, vickys. What version of Excel? I know meenal said both Excel 2003 and Excel 2007 give the error, but I have my doubts about Excel 2003 giving that error.

I get the error universally (pun intended) with Excel 2007. Honestly, haven’t had the time to see if BusObj is aware of the issue.

Hi Dwayne,

I am using MS office Excel 2003 SP2.
Any suggestion for resolving this problem is appreciated…

Compiler highlight below line :

Set DesignerApp = New Designer.Application

Thanks

I’m at a loss, since I use that version of Excel myself, and I’m guessing the majority of the thousands of downloads do as well.

I can only suggest typical debugging at this point, like trying on a co-worker’s machine, download a clean copy, etc.

Thanks, thats a good tool,BUT How to get information of DERIVED TABLES?

Hi, posting your question twice isn’t really going to help get it answered any quicker … and especially not when the answer to your question lies within the very same thread you asked the question in

HINT: Try page 5 and see if that helps

I am trying to document a XI 3.1 universe, but I am getting an out of memory error. It is in the LictConditions() section.

Thanks

I was wondering if there is any tool that can document by report name, the corresponding classes/objects & the table/column name. i.e. Excel with report → class/ objects used → Table.column name? The reason for this is I am looking at 250 odd XIR2 reports that needs documenting.

Assuming you mean full client reports, look here … List objects used in a series of reports. If you mean WebI reports, there is also a WID Scanner tool here in BOB’s Downloads.

The full client utility will document the classes / objects used, but not the tables / columns directly. Remember, a single universe object could reference many tables / columns. That said, you could use the output from the full client documentation and link it (on your own) to the universe documentation, and get very close.

Thanks Dwayne. As you rightly said, I can get pretty close

Anyway, two awesome contributions from you. Hats off!!! :yesnod: :yesnod:

While I could be available to do some custom work for you, I’m fairly sure you won’t like my rates!

That said, if you could give me a few more details than “was failing at the end,” I’ll be glad to see if there is anything wrong in the utility itself. Please include what version of the utility, and what version of Designer you are using.

I’m having this same problem.

I have Business Objects Designer 12.0 Object Library.

Doesn’t appear to be any error messages (blank pane when I click Compile VBA project).

Thanks,

Moira
