Cant see object properties window

BO XI 3.1 SP3
Designer
When I double click on object, I expect to see object properties window coming up, but it does not come up. When I right click on the object and click on ‘object properties’ then also it does not pop up. When I right click and go to ‘object format’ it comes up.

Any ideas as to why I cannot get into properties of the object?

Have you worked on a system that had two monitors attached or changed your resolution?

If so, check this topic and see if the steps described there will help you:

Thanks Mark, but I had tried this option but it doesn’t work.
Strangly ‘Object Format’ window comes up fine, just ‘Object Properties’ doesn’t come up.

Ok, time to go oldskool

Double click on any object.

Hold ALT and press the space bar

Now press M

Now use the arrow keys to try and bring it into view - I’d guess left or right firts

Issue resolved, I restarted the machine, and then tried doing ALT+ SPACE, and then followed other instructions and it worked.
Thanks a lot for your assistance Mark.

Yes, it can sometimes lose focus but basically:
ALT+Space will activate the dialog menu
M will choose Move from the dialog menu

Thanks guys. It worked. I had the same issue where I got this new monitor and I hooked it up to my computer. I had the option selected as “External Display” only. So, i was assuming that my computer i totally on external display and there is no extended display. When i double clicked on object, the dialog box was going to the extended display which is not active at this moment. So, i was not able to see it.

I went back and selected “extended display” and found the object properties dialog box in the extended display" screen. Now, i draged it back to the main screen and selected “external display only”.

All is well now.

Thanks.

This is one of the many things that gets better if you delete your user preferences registry entries, too. If you’re not comfortable in the registry, don’t do it, but if you are, find your preferences and delete the key for your user name.

I think it’s HKCU\programs\business objects…username - can’t get to regedit on this box…

A good trick to have up your sleeve,
B.

Additional convienience is that once you hit the M and a single arrow (any direction) you can then use the mouse. The message box will maintain focus. Good catch guys

Only problem with Alt-M is that if you have clicked anywhere on the main app window then there is no way to get the focus back to the dialog.
For my use I have saved the relevant registry entry to a .reg file on my desktop. Running this will merge a sensible location into the registry and you can get your dialog back
.reg contents are as follows…

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Business Objects\Suite 12.0\default\BusinessObjects\Application Preferences\BusinessDesigner\Designer\Dsgn Edit Objects]
"WindowPlacement"="190,81,665,760,1,0"

I can confirm I had the same issue with UDT and dual monitors and not being able to view the windows…all the ideas (windows key and arrows, alt tab, change display size etc…) to move windows worked for all the popup windows except “Object Properties”. I modified the registry and it fixed the problem. YAY!

HKEY_CURREN_USER\Software\SAP Business Objects\Suite XI 4.0\default\BusinessObjects\Application Preferences\BusinessDesigner\Designer\Dsgn Edit Objects

Changed the WindowPlacement to 50,50
