Linking data sets at report level

Excuse my ignorance here but what are the options in business objects for linking two relation data sets from two differing universes?

I have two data sets with common dimensions and unique_ids in both, I would like to link them together but also if possible use where criteria in the query to isolate specific data.

I have attempted to create two very simple count queries with one common dimension. The queries both run fine but when I drag the count field from query B into query A the numbers go nuts and give me the overall count for query B displayed multiple times.

Is web intelligence useful for this sort of purpose? I can easily replicate these types of queries in SQL but what I would like to know before bashing my head on a wall :hb: is web intelligence good at linking data or am I better with a purpose built universe where the data linkage has been carried out in the ETL?

Did you use “Merge Dimensions”??

Those are dimensions or Measure objects??

Thanks

Merge dimensions may be confusing at times since sometimes this happens automatically, like when two data providers use the exact same named object from each query.

As BOCP implies though, you do have the option to merge dimensions on your own at the report level, but be sure that the merge makes sense.

Thanks guys

I used the merged query option and the figures returned fine, am I right in thinking that you can only used dimensions/objects that are common to both data sets? I am looking at the feasaibilty of utilising this functionality for a complex report and I am thinking it might be best to join the data at ETL rather than attempting to use Webi.

:yesnod: But to drag the other objects (the objects that are not merged)of another dp into the same block which has the first dp’s objects, then you’ve to create detail objects and drag the detail objects into the block.

Many thanks :+1:
