Zabo through an Extranet

Has anyone been able to download Zabo through an extranet. I’m using XP at home and can’t get the download to start. I’ve tried disabling Zone Alarm, changing my internet security settings in IE to low, made sure that the setting change Scott mentioned here was done. No luck so far. Has anyone done it?

Would anyone be willing to try an extranet download to see if it is possible?

Send me the link. I’ll try it for you.

I have many users that have installed ZABO at home so it does work.
I also have one guy with F/C, Designer and Supervisor, along with all the middleware, who works from home.

I can send you a link and test ID if you want to test install from another site; might help narrow it down some as far as a server or XP cause.

I have tried it in our environment and had the same problem. I’ve done the same things (disable my firewall and virus protection, lower my browser security settings, add our site to my trusted zone), and my browser just freezes as soon as it’s ready to start the download.

It’s stopping at the same exact spot my work machine did when I didn’t have Supervisor rights to my desktop, but I know that’s not the case at home.

If there’s any way I can help you test, let me know.

Mary

That would be awesome Scott. What I see is the…

Business Objects is opening""…

message but that is as far as it gets  .

Thanks Mary! Does your also stop at…

BusinessObjects is opening “”…

Oops, I forgot to mention that I’m on Windows 98 at home and using IE6. I also tried it through Netscape (just for giggles), with the same result.

Sorry I’m a little off on my reading and replying here! Yes, it stops at that same exact spot, and I tried the fix from the same post you mentioned (Java to medium security) with no luck.

and then hangs

that is typical for XP users that have that IE browser security set to high

also happens to NT or 2000 users that are not local admin on their PC
and sometimes at work, a department techie does not allow writes to C: drive - I have to relearn them.

I saw the same messages under Windows 2000 if the user wasn’t a local admin (or I guess power user, as an alternative?)

Did you try running the “Allow_…exe” – and make sure in Task Manager that it had completed?

Scott, You’re my hero!

I got 5.1.4 from FSU. I had my security settings on Medium and changed the Java one from High to Medium. I didn’t have to disable Zone Alarm.

Now I’m going to try to upgrade from my site! Thanks so very much!

DRAT!

At my site all I ever get is…

BusinessObjects is opening “”…

Any ideas  .

I’ll have to ask permission. Thanks for the offer! :yesnod:

Could we’re missing the stuff that installs Zabo. Should that be on the server in the DMZ in an extranet setup?

Cindy Clayton :us: (BOB member since 2002-06-11)

Hey Cindy - well we proved it wasn’t your PC.
and how did ya like our home page? Instead of BO, we call it BusO (pronounced biz-o) because that is what my original supervisor named the webi server while my test server got named webi.

and I looked on my server and under the wi folder in IIS is a folder called install and in there are 2 ZABO related files – ZABOEN.cab and ZABO SystemCheck.dat – I have no idea what they do but I bet you sure do need them. I wondered if you tried logging into Webi from your server browser and trying to download ZABO from itself. What would this prove? I have no idea but I remember doing it once in testing. Maybe someone with more experience with server things can jump in here. At least we have it narrowed down some.

Scott,
Which server do these files exist on. The LAN web server of the DMZ web server. Can you please explain your configuration in detail?

anand (BOB member since 2002-08-14)

sorry - server stuff is not something I know much about so far. I was just responding here because I knew a little about ZABO hanging on install.

scott copeland (BOB member since 2002-08-15)

Well Scott,

You definitely have an extranet install 'cause I was able to install Zabo and I’m certainly not on your network  . The place where you found the zabo files…was that inside your firewall or in your DMZ?

We’re trying to figure out whether we need those files on the DMZ server in order to make the Zabo download work :yesnod: . Thanks so very much!

Cindy Clayton :us: (BOB member since 2002-06-11)

Firewall? What’s that? We don’t need no stinkin’ firewall. :rotf:

You have prompted me though to look into this and start educating myself so I can talk to the server guys about what we should be doing. The deployment guide is a good place for me to get some basics. Between that and searching on BOB, I should be able to learn this stuff. Thanks!
