XI3.1 SP3 - order for upgrading test vs new install

Hi all–

So, we’re in the midst of testing XI3.1, and have had SP2, FP2.4 installed for a few months. I see 3.1 SP3 is out now, and figured we should probably apply it to test before we keep going. So, a few questions on order, since the download site seems just to have the install files, and not documentation…

  1. For test server (Linux) I can just do it on top of XI 3.1 SP2 FP2.4, right? No fresh install needed?

  2. For test desktop clients (Designer, Report Conversion, Deski) - better to completely uninstall, or ok to overlay?

  3. For when we get to production, both server and client, can we, as we did with SP2, just do the base XI 3.1 install and then apply SP3, skipping the intervening SPs and FPs?

Thanks,
Amy

There are documents available on the SAP Support Web Site, https://websmp110.sap-ag.de/bosap-support. If you can download software, you can download the install and upgrade documents from here.

Thanks, but I had actually made my way there and on to Release Notes/SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence (BI)/ Enterprise/, but only see the Release Notes for 3.0, 3.1 and 3.1 SP2. Am I missing SP3 somewhere - has anyone seen those notes?

Thanks.

wobi wondering…

PS: hm I can not upgrade my boxir3 2.7 - have to uninstall - all the prev. servicepacks and fixpacks…- manually ???

Perhaps you can access SP3 documentation by searching through the SAP notes instead:

XI 3.1 ServicePack 3 Fixed Issues list, note 1457545
XI 3.1 ServicePack 3 Release Notes, note 1456897
XI 3.1 ServicePack 3 Upgrade Installation Guide, note 1456898
XI 3.1 ServicePack 3 What's New, note 1456899

Bidner, I think SP3 only has fixes through FP2.5 included which may explain why you needed to uninstall FP2.7 prior to installing SP3.

ah good thought - sap notes … didn’t think of that…
ah - again - that’s maybe the cause - but meanwhile I am at removing SP2 - which takes ages - running for an hour now :blue:

  • too late :hb: but thank’s for your input!

PS: now I discovered the Patchversion of SP3 - that may also behave different - ? may check this out tomorrow when another 2 gig are downloaded

I found the following document here:https://websmp110.sap-ag.de/bosap-support:

Enterprise XI 3.1 SP3 - Windows - Supported Platforms.pdf

Other documentation is available at https://websmp110.sap-ag.de/bosap-instguides

SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise Installation Guide for Window
SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise Deployment Planning Guide
SAP BusinessObjects Update Installation and Deployment Guide
SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise Upgrade Guide
Web Application Deployment Guide for Windows

There were other documents there for non-windows platforms as well. You’ll have to drill down through the documentation list to get to them.

I didn’t find the notes documents though. I’ll have to go look at those.

We’re really looking for the notes specific to this SP3, not the overall guides. Maybe they’re just not finished putting them up there yet…

Thanks.

Amy, the SP3 specific guides are available via the notes I posted above. I downloaded all 4 earlier this week. For example, here is a link to the SP3 Fixed Issues List note for the Windows version:

The documents I listed were specific to service pack 3. The name of the documents were just generic. In the version column, they were listed as service pack 3.

well well - while “hunting” pdfs the whole afternoon - it comes to an end finding piece for piece …all bits of information … but why is it spread over all this different locations - that does not make much sense…
there even is an install pdf in german - that’s good for me - not for you maybe

SAP is quite “structured” in spreading information all over the sap - world

Wobi

PS: Well they rebrandet the layout … hm… " let there be light …"

Ok, finally I get it too, thanks very much for the repeated pointers. Wow, they couldn’t have made them too much harder to find, could they!

And, now that I’m reading them - interesting that there’s no mention of Linux support, yet I’ve downloaded the server software (haven’t tried it yet though)!

Like IE6, I wish their website was jettisoned from the universe.

I am sooooooo glad I’m not the only one with that opinion of the usefulness and convenience of the SAP website.

Well the Upgrade - Installationfile warns that it may be necessary to install a fixpack - but it works without deinstallation of the prev. BOXIR2SP2 2.7

I once opened a support case telling them that the SAP site made me want to commit suicide.

I never did get a response and after 6 months I closed it.
