Xcelsius Java.lang.nullpointerexception error

Hello All,

When I export a .xlf file to Business objects platform, it seems to be working fine. But when I go to Infoview to open that flash file, I’m getting this error.

“Cannot access external data - java.lang.nullpointerexception error”.

It doesn’t happen all the time, but when it occurs the error pops up for every single flash file. Once I get this error, the dashboard would not load any data coming from QaaWS. The funny thing is when I get this error at work and when I go home and open it, it will work and viceversa. I’m not sure if it needs some time or what.

I really need somebody’s help on this as it’s killing my time. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Ven

Do you remember how you solved it?

Thanks

Your Dashboard is facing a problem to get data from the Database. that is your QAAWS connectivity problem.
I can solve your problem.

Usually this error occurs when yo pass a value to a object in a universe via QAAWS, Live Office or BI Service and the object gets deleted or nnot available in the universe.

Hey,
Over the past week or so I started getting this error as well, with just about every QAAWS connection in Xcelsius.
I tested it by creating a new QAAWS connection, using it in a new Xcelsius dashboard, and still, I get this error.

Any advice how to troubleshoot, if not fix this issue?

Thanks!

Have a customer with the same behavior. It is seemingly random. Can go a period of time, works fine, then we start getting the java.lang.NullPointerException errors when the dash refreshes against the query.

Any progress out there on finding root cause? Because it happens at random makes me think that there is an issue with a value being passed to the query or some sort of web/app connectivity is broken or unavailable for some other reason.

Hard to pinpoint this one.

No progress on my front.
I’ve found that the problem is coming from QAAWS and not from Xcelsius. I was able to reproduce it also when connecting Rich Client to QAAWS.

I have an open trouble ticket about this with SAP (Don’t have its number), but I’m not holding my breath for them to solve this.

Are you using any prompts in the qaaws query?

I’ve tried QAAWS with prompts and without prompts.

I eventually managed to resolve this issue by upgrading tomcat from 5.5 to 6. Once I did that, this error never came back up.

Hi Guys,

Having the same issue with BI 4.1, using QAAWS accessing web services created from scheduled WEBI document.

We are on Tomcat 6.

Can anyone share a resolution for this please?

Thanks
