Xcelsius 2008 and Engage

What is the difference between Xcelsius “2008” and “Engage”, the write ups on the Business Objects website certailny indicates a difference however when I downloaded both for evaluation the ZIP files the same and the unzipped files the same. Completed installation of both and in my Start Program I see the same shortcuts Xcelsius then Xcelsius 2008.

The file space used by both installations the same as well

Installed on VMWare 1.Client BO =“2008” and 2.Server BO = “Engage” .

I am somewhat confused, what have I not yet read or implemented, I only ran the setup.exe from each of the unzipped applications.

Xcelsius 2008 comes in 3 increasing levels of functionality/price: Present, Engage and Enterprise.

Xcelsius 2008 Present only works with Excel (not live) data. Xcelsius 2008 Engage allows live data via XML or web services. Finally Xcelsius 2008 Enterprise allows live data from Business Objects Edge Series or Business Objects Enterprise.

Xcelsius 2008 Engage can work with any web service. However, if you don’t have any pre-existing web services, you can deploy Xcelsius 2008 Engage Server, which will host your web services. One way to create web services on this platform is using Flynet, a 3rd party app included with Engage Server. Flynet converts SQL queries into web services, which can then be published to the Engage Server for consumption by Xcelsius Engage dashboards.

If you already have Business Objects Edge Series (BOES) or Business Objects Enterprise, Xcelsius 2008 Enterprise is the right choice. You can create queries to live data using Query as a Web Service (QaaWS) or Live Office. Customers with Crystal Reports Server should move up to BOES. Engage Server was created as a solution for customers who would like to visualize visualize live data but don’t currently own a server product and have no other platform in place to deliver web services.
