X day of nth Week of Month

I noticed in the scheduler there is the option of ‘X day of nth Week of the Month’. What I want to understand is if I set it to Monday of the 1st week of the month, what will happen if there is no Monday in the 1st week, will it just not run the report that month or if for example the 1st day of the month was a Tuesday would it run then when it realise there is no Monday in the first week ?

What Im trying to achieve is to schedule reports to run on the first business day of the month but I only have the standard XI scheduler options to pick so I need some way to do it in that.

Unfortantly my XI instance they have disabled calenders so I cannot use that. I have been informed by IT that switching on the calenders is a big job and requires lots of testing and they wont even consider creating a calender for us to use. Its been a fair while since I was a BO XI admin but I can’t remeber it being a massive piece of work to turn on calenders is it ?

Calendars don’t require what I would call a “massive” amount of work to be usable by the public. It is a pain to manually set up the days for each calendar, but that is what the SDK is for  I have about 30 calendars in my environment without issue.

Sorry I can’t provide an answer to your question about the first business day of the month.

From an IT perspective, I’ve set up several calendars for our schedulers to use when setting up report schedules. Though some restrictions have been put on calendar creation, I haven’t found them to be difficult to set up. However, since BOXI doesn’t have a selection to run on the first business day of the month, this type of calendar isn’t automatic would have to be maintained. It’s this type of calendar that has been frowned upon in our environment. Though it’s not a lot of work, it must be maintained and someone must take the responsibility for doing it and remembering when it will need done.

The type of calendars we generally create are those for reports that run on multiple specific dates. For instance, we have calendars for reports that run on the 1st and 3rd Monday, the 2nd and 16th of the month, the 11th, 18th, and 25th of the month, etc.

I hope this helps you better understand calendars.

Have a great day!

It could be a business restriction.

Our site has a different setup for each country (there’s over 100) and each country’s calendars are maintained in the business areas, not IT. Changes happen all the time. To maintain the same calendars in BOE would require that the business area remember to notify IT of all changes.

KSG makes a good point. I would also shy away from using calendars if changes have to be conveyed manually. In my organization, everything is based on fiscal weeks (e.g. 1st Monday of 1st week in the current fiscal period) and the fiscal calendar is replicated in the data warehouse. I created the most heavily demanded calendars via the SDK through the year 2036 based on the DW calendar table. There is practically no probability that something will change. I really hope I’m not in the same job when 2036 comes around.
