Problem
I’ve created a Flash file from Xcelsius so that I can use it Widgets. If I open the Flash file in my Internet browser it renders straight away.
However, if I try and open in Widgets, it gets stuck on Initializing.
I’ve check my connection and have tried it with 2 different users - one of which being administrator - and it makes no difference.
You have to export it as a .AIR file first, then open it in Widgets. And when you try to export it from Xcelsius as a .AIR file, you will see that you have to download the Flex 3.0 SDK first.

I’ve tried exporting as .AIR
When Xcelsius prompted me for the install path for Flex 3.0 I followed the link but have not been able to locate Flex 3.0 on the Web for download.
I downloaded and installed Flex 4.6 and when I tried to export as a .AIR I kept getting a certificate error which stated that the certificate expired sometime in 2012!!!
I can’t believe that it has to be exported as .AIR since when I first looked Widgets I distinctly remember exporting as .SWF and opening that in Widgets absolutely fine - this was over a year ago and I subsequently uninstalled the app because I found I wasnt using it and at the time there was no requirement.
Yeah, you cannot use the Flex 4.6 sdk with Xcelsius 2008. Xcelsius 2008 uses an older version of Flex, so you would need to download & install the version it asks for. You can find older versions here:
Unzip the sdk into the following folder:
…Program Files\Adobe\Flex Builder 3 Plug-in\sdks\3.0
Then update the Xcelsius sdkPath.dat to reflect the path above (open in Notepad). This .dat file can usually be located in
…Program Files\Business Objects\Xcelsius\assets\air
It is a laborious process - probably one of the reasons Widgets are not used more. The other reason being that they tend to be slow performing …
