White space between page header and report element

My issue is different than what I find when I search for it. My problem is NOT dissapering space on the second page.

I set up my pages as follows:
Size A4, upper margin 1 cm, header height 2,1 cm.

Then I add a report element and use relative positioning for the vertical alignment 0 cm from top of report.

Just to be clear about it, there are no sections, no empty/invisible cells etc.

What I expect is that the table starts at 3,1 cm from the edge of the paper.
(3.1 = margin 1 cm + header 2,1 cm + 0cm)

But, it doesn’t.
Problem 1: A white space little over 1 cm shows up between header and report element.

Now for some counting. A4 in lying format has a ‘height’ of 21 cm

All my declared ‘heights’ are
Top marging 1 cm
Header 2,1 cm
Report element A
rel vert pos 0 cm
height 4,5 cm
Report element B
rel vert pos 0,5 cm
height 4,5 cm
Report element C
rel vert pos 0,5 cm
height 4,5 cm
Footer 0,5 cm
Bottom margin 1,5 cm

To me that totals up to 19,6 cm so this is well under the available 21 cm
Problem 2: Yet my report element 3 goes partially over to page 2

Now there’s a peculiair ‘fix’ to the white space. I can drag report element 1 a little upwards in the white space. Since I use relative positioning for all report elements originating in report element 1 all elements should move also.
Problem 3: But, they don’t. And when I try to set relative positioning again, report element 1 is not in the list. My guess it isn’t visible because webi thinks it’s in another designated area (like a header, footer section whatever.) It definitely is outside header and footer but I’m also absolutely sure there are no sections.

Then there’s no londer white space between header and first element. But, now ther’s white space beteen the last element and the footer, AND,
Problem 4: it still doesn’t fit to one page :hb:

Does anyone have a clue?

Hmmm… That’s pretty incredible you measured all of that.
I usually turn off the page Header and Footer and use the entire canvas. Yes, I have used a stand-alone cell near the edge of the header and scratched my head when it just disappeared (somehow the header devoured it ) - so I just turn them off. I don’t use them anyway, because on export to excel, anything in the page header or footer doesn’t export anyway. (Maybe I just never figured out the setting to force them to export) The block headers and footers have always work best for me.

Snap to grid works well, but it’s imperative if you need to align multiple blocks - then use the position alignment tool. Don’t align by dragging, especially blocks vertically. If you drag, you’ll figure it out after you export… believe me. :blue: It’s not WYSIWYG by any means and it’s one WEBI that you will get a chance to do over again as it’s irreparable to recover from. That includes dragging row or column widths/heights with multiple blocks horizontally or vertically. Save often and never overwrite previous save when your making adjustments in these minefields.

Don’t forget to use the group function if you have created many cells and need to move them together to maintain spacing.

Hope some of these scraps help ya out… If you specifically don’t need the page headers or footers, turn them off. Honestly, it’s the first thing I do when designing a WEBI. Not actually sure about the whitespace, but sounds like the header buffer… gobbler area. There’s some voodoo going on there… possibly a black hole - or in this case, a white hole.

Last ditch effort… export your page to excel and look closely at both row numbering and column lettering. Some may be compressed, which accounts for the extra cm’s your missing.

Thanks datawizard. You made me think of a way to further examine the problem. What would happen if there was no header (or/and footer)?
