Where can I ask SAP Analytics Cloud questions?

Need help understanding how to get my County names entered correctly for GeoEnrichment in SAC, but can’t find anywhere to ask for help.

Hi,

Im a SAP certified SAC pre-sales consultant. Dont think there`s an area on here for SAC (or if there will be!).

I might be able to help though. Are these US Counties? Have you tried setting the state as the region and the county as the sub-region when doing the mapping?

It depends what you want to achieve really, but if its just a layer of counties, you can upload your own geographies as a POI (Point Of Interest), as long as its in the right format (.SHP or a shape file). However, this is just a layer, it won`t map back to your data.

To be brutal, the mapping capability in SAC still isn`t that great. But some things can be achieved…!

Off topic.

Why SAP create another software (again) while there are tons of features pending for BO/Lumira?

Lumira is dead. And everyone needs a cloud offering…

How come? We plan to replace Design Studio with Lumira 2.1 next month as the mainstream maintenance of DS will end in Dec 2018.

Seriously? Sounds like I am out of date or the road map changed.

Nick Daniels :uk: (BOB member since 2002-08-15)

I am not sure if the following URL will open the same page as it does for me, but try:

There in the Release Plan section there is the date 28.12.2018 set as End of Maintstream Maintenance for DS 1.6

I can well believe that…same for BO 4.1. More interesting would be the details of Lumira for the next few years.

The Road Map for Lumira is here. According to that document, EOL is 2024. SAC is being woven into many of their products, and (eventually) will become their mainstream reporting tool. It’s not quite there yet.

Why not they add cloud in Lumira/BO?

summoner :hong_kong: (BOB member since 2008-12-18)

Hi,

Lumira 2.0 Client tools is a combination of two tools

  1. Lumira Designer (previously known as Design Studio)
  2. Lumira Discovery (previously known as Lumira)

As per the Support EOL, refer this document:

Cheers

P.S.: the PDF takes a while to load :frowning:

The current strategy is hybridisation. When I try and explain this to customers is that the SAP BI suite and SAC are complimentary products. When we talk true ‘reporting’ SAC just doesnt support the usual requirements in this arena, whereas SAC is becoming a catch-all Analytics platform with quite a few use cases. There is a cross over in various areas, but there is enough uniqueness to use both. SACs main differentiator, from SAP BI and even the rest of the BI market is the inbuilt smart insights and predictive capabilities, and also the light touch planning capabilities. There isnt a product on the market that does all this in the cloud. Although it looks like IBM are moving in this direction with Cognos Analytics (having mothballed Watson Analytics). My only concern with SAC is that it might be trying to be a jack of all trades but a master of none of them. Plus, and this is fundamental, the data integration side of SAC just isnt production strength yet. The same as Lumiras wasnt when compared to PowerBI or now Tableau with Tableau Prep. The trouble is, is you very rarely demo the data integration side but just show people the pretty bits!

Willing to answer any SAC questions for anyone as appreciate it`s not got the best traction in the market, and hence ecosystem.

Our organization is hoping to get on the SAC band wagon soon. We have dabbled with Lumira from the early stages (really were looking for a good solution to Dashboard Designer). But we do not have HANA (budget constraints), and a lot of diverse databases to deal with (MS-SQL, Cache, Informix, etc.). We have had some training in Lumira Discovery and Designer (three day course). Lumira Designer while appears to be a powerful tool, it is not easy to replicate what I used to do in Dashboard Designer (especially since I have one dashboard that uses an XML data source outside the BI environment).

SAP are introducing designer style features into SAC at the end of this year. UI control stuff etc for building apps.

ABILtd :uk: (BOB member since 2006-02-08)

why does sap always pick out the weirdest naming conventions?

BO, SAC?

Does SAC support non-cloud solution? i.e. On-premises
For instance, I don’t want to put several sensitive information on cloud.

summoner :hong_kong: (BOB member since 2008-12-18)

You can access data from SAC, which will remain on-premise and NOT be uploaded into the cloud.

Live data in SAC has a pretty limited use case and spread of datasources (it does work ok with Universes but ALL the work has to be done at source). It`s a bit of a shame really. Although they are working on it! Things like not being able to use smart insights, certain types of calculations etc.

Incidentally, didnt want to spam but I recently started a SAC user group on linkedin. Its pretty low key at the moment, but you`ve got to start somewhere.

Where can we read more or see SAC connected to on-prem data that is not a part of the SAP landscape (e.g., an Oracle data warehouse, etc.).

Thanks,
Steve
