When installing client on machine with Net 8

The check middleware comes back and says it cannot find the OCIW32.DLL.

The file appears in the C:\ORA8i\BIN directory and it is the only copy on the PC. When I type path the same directory is in the path. Since this is an NT machine I check the path under the environment tab and the C:\ORA8i\BIN path was there also. I have exhausted the knowledge base on the tech support page.

I don’t understand why this application (chkmidw) keeps saying it cannot be found. SQL*Plus works fine…

Any thoughts??? Nothing on this subject was found in the archives since the first of the year.

Heh, upgrading to Net 8 crahes all my full client users :\ I’ve had to completely uninstall every and all version of the oracle client past and present and reinstall the client. Make sure that no previous clients exist is my suggestion.

Tom:

Regarding the OCIW32.DLL file, we’ve had problems with that file as well. Sometimes, we’ve had old versions of the file, and we had to upgrade the file. Also, some software packages would install an old version of it and put it in the path BEFORE the one we needed. This would cause the bad OCIW32.DLL file to be found first. I know you said that you only had the ONE file on the computer, but I thought I’d explain that as an option for others that experience problems with the OCIW32.Dll file as well.

Hope this helps.

Although I haven’t tried BO with 8i, we had a similar problem with our ETL tool (ActaWorks) whilst trying out 8i - it couldn’t find sqlplus - in the end we got an upgrade patch from Acta to fix this, and it is something to do with the fact that the file name for sqlplus in 8i is different from previous versions - being java based and therefore needing to be compatible with other os’s, I think the file name has lost the 80, i.e. in Plus80w.exe. Renaming the file didn’t help at all.

I could be wrong of course, keep me informed if you find a solution.

Tom.

Is your ORANT HOME setting in the registry correct ? That might be worth checking.

Tom,

May sound like a daft suggestion but it is not uncommon for some products not to check the full path or to have a problem with the order of directories in the path. Try moving the C:\ORA8i\BIN entry in the path to nearer the beginning.

Good luck.

I did the moving around and found something very interesting.

8I uses a directory Ora8i\bin. SQL*NEt uses ORANT\BIN. I took out the old and move around the 8i dir the program said path was invalid. Took out the 8i path and put in the ORANT and copied the file to the proper directory and the check program worked. Hard coding strikes again!!!

BO has some hard coding of where its looking for the SQL Net programs that needs to be fixed.

So it is said so it is logged to tech support.

This ORANT HOME is correct and the CHKMIDW program confirms it.
