what's the difference between bo suite and normal license

Hi All,

I want to know, what is the difference between BO general/normal license and suite license?

Thanks

There’s no such thing as a ‘normal’ license. Maybe you mean a webi viewer or developer license.

BO Suite is a concurrent license that gives you access to the whole suite of content creation tools. Is it in essence a scalable version of the BI Edge licensing and possibly the most flexible license stack you can use within SAP BI.

Hi Usha,

Abi is correct. If you’re in the same boat as us, you could be on an older licensing structure. We’re currently in business review, and have recieved an overview of their current BI suite. Here’s an image I searched for that gives you what all is included in the BI Suite.

Good luck.

Note that the BI Suite license includes the web-based tools. Usage of the client-based tools (WebI Rich Client, Crystal Reports, Dashboards, Lumira, etc.) require named user licenses.

That’s actually a little confusing. Named and Concurrent are actually names of BI Suite\Edge licenses. The tools you listed are thick client tools (well Crystal, Dashboards, Lumira) require their own license for the client install (which is neither named or concurrent, the tools can work completely independently if required). Webi RCT logs into the CMS using whatever license you have and the client install isnt controlled by a license key. To publish content from Crystal or Dashboards you require an login to the CMS, so that would require a license. Lumira is a special case as its server component is separate from the rest of BI (but then can use the same web portal!).

Admittedly licensing is a strange one. My best advice is always to contact your account manager who will know what you own and when you bought it (which can be very important if you bought your licenses pre 2009).

Yes, I agree 100%, the licensing is not clear.

The Software Use Rights document does specify that desktop-installed components (including WRC) are not covered by the Concurrent Session license. See section 6.1.1 here, specifically:

So use of the desktop-based tools (CR, WRC, etc.) requires a NUL, but viewing the published content in infoview requires a CAL. To make it a bit more confusing, a user who is allocated a NUL does not count towards the concurrency limit when logged in to infoview.

Lumira Server was (and still is) covered under the CAL, but previously required HANA. As of 2016, a restricted-use HANA license is included. I just found this recently. See this page.

But, again, any licensing questions are best addressed to an account manager.

Joe
