What Seems to be the problem? (Ranking in Crosstab)

I have a situation where i need to show the rankings of each Customer based on their sales in each year.

it works fine but when I add a column on the left of the customers column and break it to show the first letter of their names the rank fails to meet the requirements.

the snapshot below explains the setup (notice the rankings are wrong)

Weve tried some available functions but still cannot correct it.

NOTE: it needs to be in crosstab table

Any help/hint/idea will be appreciated

Thanks

Hi Jvmauricio,

When you apply rank you have to keep in mind that you can rank only one dimension based on a measure value…
When you added a column to the left . a group function got implemented on your previous output and hence your result got changed which means now your ranking is considering 2 dimension to be ranked based on a measure which is not possible …

Since your Sort column seems like a category to me under which you want to see rankings of each Customer based on their sales in each year.
to achieve the similar answer for your analysis you can remove that column from left and make it as your section .

  1. I hope that should solve your purpose.

or

  1. to further customize you report you can drag and drop that column in the drill analysis pane of the report so that it works as a drill down option for the user and the user can select the desired value and can see the corrosponding result.

Sometime we needn’t develop what we are just asked to develop. sometimes we need to think out of box and give the same answer with a little different design. Thats where we start to grow in terms of implementation. (no offenses just a suggestion)

Please correct my mistakes, if any.

Cheers,

no offence at all  , and your solution really fits the report.

ive been finding some workaround for this report and my colleagues suggest me the same, I like what you said about thinking out of the box coz sometimes I often think myself to the point that im loosing the very concept of the output and keep saying to myself that theres a solution for a certain problem that I just didnt know. thus I set aside the Idea that BO has its own limitations. (Enlightening myself :rotf: )

Anyways thanks for that words of wisdom, Im still in my early days of studying BO and hope I find answers to some
of my problems in you guys

PS: to others who have encountered the same and solved it I still appreciate your solution

Cheers :+1:
