ajq:

It helps by “cleaning up your system” from extraneous stuff that either the CMS will never get to load or reports that will never get called by the CMS. Over time, it is possible for a report to get orphaned (e.g. the .wid is created in the input FRS, but the transaction is not committed to the CMS database. Or, you have a disk that is restored from a backup and mysteriously some reports are not restored but the CMS has no way of finding out other than using “scan and repair”. The tool is necessary due to the disjointed nature of the architecture using two technologies (disk and database) to maintain and store reports. In a perfect world you should never have any results come out of a scan and repair, however, you know how “stuff happens”, right???

Thanks,
John

Now I wonder…

I have reports in the FRS not linked in the CMS… But the scan&repair does not actually repair the issue… it just suggest to re-publish the report.
Now well, how about 500+ reports to republish ?

Is there any way to clean out the FRS (i.e if it is not in the CMS and I do not have complaints, then who cares ? -> delete report from FRS) ?
