What are the uses for "Default aggregation" option

In WebI 3.1, when I click on the Sigma (Sum) icon, the last option is “Default aggregation”. What are the uses of this function?

I had not noticed that yet, and it seems a bit redundant. By default if you don’t do any aggregation, then the measure will still project based on the function selected in the universe. It sounds like that option is going to do the same thing.

I have 3.0 installed right now so I can’t test it, but that’s my guess.
