i came through from one post that webi reports are fast, because deski report will convert into html before firing query on to database. it’s true???

If you open a Deski report in Desktop Intellience, it doesn’t get converted to HTML. If you open it in InfoView, it does get converted to HTML. But the same is true for a Webi document. When viewing in InfoView, it get converted to HTML. I’ve seen no performance difference between the two.

one more post i came through that when we rearrange objects in a deski report (not including any other object) , then it uses the same cube for data (not hitting database), while webi hits database. Is this true??

Rakesh_K :india: (BOB member since 2007-12-11)

No, that’s not true. Webi (as well as Deski) only hits the database when running the query. Rearranging objects on a report does not run the query.

what about lov’s. In deski reports if you will not refresh list then it will show the list from report metadata. but in case of webi report it will always refresh LOV list.

Are you talking about universe LOVs? The only difference is that Deski allows users to edit their list of values, and Webi doesn’t. Otherwise, they work the same.

What about architecture difference of deski (2 tier) and webi (3 tier). Performance will be same?

If you build your infrastructure correctly then you shouldn’t see any differences.

I would suggest you read through the documentation the describes the components used to create/run a Deski or Webi report. From that you will understand where you need to focus your efforts. You also need to read the sizing guide to properly scale your environment.

Both products can be run in 2-tier or 3-tier mode. To be fair, you can’t compare Deski 2-Tier to Webi 3-Tier. Compare both in 2-Tier or both in 3-Tier. You shouldn’t see a difference.

Can you please provide me some details, how both can work on both tiers.

Any documents will be very helpful.

If you launch Deski, or Webi Rich Client, from InfoView, then they are opened in 3-Tier mode. If you launch either from the Start button, then operate in 2-Tier mode, unless you specifically choose to log in using 3-Tier mode (J2EE Portal). You can read the user guide for each product to obtain more details.

For Deski its true, but how to run Webi from start menu without Infoview?

Rakesh_K :india: (BOB member since 2007-12-11)

The same way you start Deski: Start - Programs - BusinessObjects XI 3.x - BusinessObjects Enterprise - Web Intelligence Rich Client.

MichaelWelter :vatican_city: (BOB member since 2002-08-08)

Web Intelligence Rich Client is the two-tier product available in XIR3

what about BO XI R2 Webi?

Rakesh_K :india: (BOB member since 2007-12-11)

There is no client version of Web Intelligence in XIR2.

MichaelWelter :vatican_city: (BOB member since 2002-08-08)

so there is no 2-tier version of webi in XI R2?

Rakesh_K :india: (BOB member since 2007-12-11)

Correct. It’s a new feature added with XIr3
