Does this bring anything to light? I have a minimal IT background, so I’ll need fairly clear advice when it comes to directions of what to look for and troubleshoot.
Thanks for the response Mark. You almost always respond to my posts when I need help!
Unfortunately, I am the under-qualified, part-time, ‘recently graduated university in business’ DBA. Half the time I have no idea when an issue like this surfaces - I certainly have no database experience to go off of.
Also, the company I work for is small, and can’t afford a full-fledged DBA with experience, so they’ve hired me instead with the understanding that any progress I make is just a bonus. They were sold on Business Objects by a consulting firm, but I’m convinced it’s way out of our league.
Anyway, if you’re willing to guide me through it, I’d sure appreciate it! But I understand that issues like this could be coming from a thousand different places, and it’d probably be a pain to have to walk me through each one. I can imagine it’s much more complex than just “go here and check this box.”
I’m going to keep taking a stab at it, and I’ll share any progress I make.
OK, so check the name of the account used in the universe connection.
Things to check:
Can you log on to your database query with the above account and query tables?
If not, log on to your database admin tool and have a look at what privileges the account has. If something has changed, something has changed. By that, I mean that if you’re seeing a different behavior, something has caused it. Think about all the things that you have changed recently and see if you can reasonably figure out what may have impacted this. It could be anything from a new BO service pack to a user account change to a new Windows AD policy update to a new database update file being installed.
