[Webi 4.x] BO 4.0 vs BO 3.1 - refresh time

Hi
We have two version of BO - 3.1 and 4.0.
When I use 3.1 report refreshing about 8 minutes, but when I use 4.0 the same report is refreshing about 17 min.
Do you know how can I improve 4.0 ?

Standard questions:
A) What data source are you accessing?
B) Have you nstalled and congfigured the current version of database driver middleware as 64-bit on your SAP BI BusObjects server
C) What is the exact patch level of your SAP BI BusObjects Server? Current is either SP4 Patch 10 or SP5 with patch 3.
D) How far does your SAP BI BusObjects 4 server reside from your data source with respect to: network hops (switches, routers), network bandwidth & latency?

Hi

vamsi.gaddam - I edit connection and changed value to 100 - not help

Andreas:
I know answers only for first 3 question:

  1. Data source - sql server 2008
  2. I have ODBC Driver 11 for SQL Server
  3. SAP BO 4.0 SP4

the last question - I don’t know - our servers are in other country/department

I’ve upgraded to BO 4.0 SP5 and still is the problem.
Any idea?

You may have to play with these values a little.

Hi Mak 1
I’ve changed fethc size and it works better- thank you :stuck_out_tongue:

But I have still problem with long refreshing time in Rich Client (standalone).
In BI Launch Pad one report takes 1 minute and in Rich Client 8 minutes :hb:

Anybody faced the same problem?

Cool :).

Also, you should look at the route your PC is taking when accessing BO using the Rich Client. Are you using this in 2 or 3 tier mode? How do the times compare between the two methods?

Mak 1 :uk: (BOB member since 2005-01-06)

Sorry Mark but could you explain me

RaDoSZ :poland: (BOB member since 2011-03-03)

Hi again,
I’ve installed SP5 FP3 (the newest version) and still the problem exists :hb:

Do you have the same problem or you use only BI Lauch Pad?

RaDoSZ :poland: (BOB member since 2011-03-03)

2 Tier, client on PC, e.g. Rich Client using middleware on users PC.
3 Tier, via webserver uses middleware on web server to access data.

hi Mak 1,

The same report in BI Lauch Pad takes 2 minutes and in RichClient (2-tier) - 10-12 minutes.

Rich Client uses java and is indeed sloooooooooow in 4.0.
Via launchpad i would say stick to web for viewing, rich client is only needed when you want you [Data] tab to be shown and used.
Incase of changing uni’s for example.

On the pc any suggestion to improve there is also welcome for me, i just accept that it takes a while longer then if i really need all data.

It’s not good to hear it:

Our report designer users are using RichClient 3.1 and after swithced to 4.0 they are a little angry :expressionless:

I’ve created message in SAP also but without effect yet :frowning:

I design with rc aswell but used a limited dataset or in structure only until i’m finished (or think i am) then in run it fully.
Or publish it in my favorites on the server and then run it via launchpad in web modus.
But i still prefer 4.0 over 3.1.

goodluck with the ticket… it will help more of us if it gets solved

If you are on SAP BI BusObjects 4 SP4 (incl. FP3) with NO patches, DEFINATELY install Patch 11 for SP4 :!:
Note: This must be done on server as well on clients

Andreas :de: (BOB member since 2002-06-20)

Hi Andreas,
I have SP5 FP3 and I don’t see any improvment in refresh time

RaDoSZ :poland: (BOB member since 2011-03-03)

I would still be trying different array fetch sizes if I were you.
It also looks as if your network is performing badly…
