Web Installed client problem...

I have just installed 6.1a web client. It installs fine and it launches fine. The problem is that when I try to login, I always get this error code: USR0046 - Cannot Access network Layer. The initial times I tried it, it would not work. I copied in the keyfile, and it got past the initial error. Now, I only get “USR0046 - Cannot Access network Layer”. I read the docs and it suggests copying in the Oracle.sbo files. I did get the entire RDBMS dir from a working 6.1a machine with the full client loaded and copied it into place. It still does not work. Has anyone had this problem?

I am also a bit confused about this “web installed client”. I thought the purpose of it was to have a small install with no configuration needed. If you need to put in keyfiles OR anything else to get it to work, what is its use? Shouldn’t the keyfiles, etc be included in the install?

You need to start over.

This tells me you did an install without a key at the start. That means the software did not install correctly.

Now that you have a key, redo the install and the right files will be put in the right places.

So you are saying that you must have a version of the full client installed whrn you install this web client? I was under the impression that this client was completely stand-alone and that it did not require any real configuration??

Maybe I misunderstood…

Update:

I tried to reinstall the program. I selected to modify the existing. In that option, I selected all products necessary;however, when I expanded the RDBMS section, there was only something there for Microsoft. Shouldn’t there be one there for Oracle?

This means that your key doesn’t give you access to Oracle.

Which means you either have to purchase the “Data Access Pack for Oracle” from Business Objects, or if you have the “Data Access Pack for generic ODBC” you could use that one instead - although it is recommended to use the native connectivity for DB such as Oracle Client, which in order to work with the Business Objects software requires the Business Objects “Data Access Pack for Oracle”.

That does not make any sense. I DO have the Oracle licensing because every part of BO runs on Oracle in my environment. The repository is on an Oracle 9i db. Reporter, Supervisor, and Designer work fine. I have installed/reinstalled/uninstalled this thing about 12 times now and it does not work. I do agree that it appears to be a problem with not connecting to Oracle, but I dont know why. I am also having a problem with Webi, but it is related to using the license files on a shared drive. BO is looking into the sw problem now.

Update:

I did somewhat resolve this issue. The problem was the way BO tried to read the license files in WEBI ONLY. When I logged into the server with BO 6.1a, I could get to the share with the license files on it no problem. I could also use any BO product other than WEBI. What I found was that WEBI uses the owner of the BO services for authentication to the share. So, if the Windows user account that the ORB was setup under does NOT have rights to the share that holds the license files, it will not work. I changed the owner of the services to a user account that has acces to that share and it is fine. This was not relevant with any other of the BO products.

I am still having a problem opening any reports with WEBI, but I think the license file thing is resolved.

This was also news to BO Support as well.
