I am attempting to upgrade our business objects environment from service pack 2 patch 9 to service pack 4(fp3). So far, I have successfully upgraded our two clustered nodes by verifying their CMS.EXE. I just finished updating the web app server to service pack 4. I believe the last step is to run Web Deploy which is new to me.
I have been using the following resources to try and assist me with this process:
The Web Application Deployment Guide for Windows 4.0 SP 4 unfortunately doesn’t show any screen-shots or walk-throughs.
Environment:
server node 1 running SP4, windows server 2008 r2, 64bit
server node 2 running SP4, windows server 2008 r2, 64bit
server web app running SP4, windows server 2008 r2, 64bit
I’ll attach a screen-shot to show where I am currently at within this process.
How do I complete the Web Deploy process. Do I undeploy or redeploy? I am also unsure about the default service name and instance. Does that information get pulled for a file which was already configured?
Your Tomcat Service name and instance values seem to be correct. If you do not have your web apps deployed already, then yes go ahead and redeploy them.
In order to check whether your applications are deployed or not, click on your BILaunchPad or CMC links. If you can access them, then there is no need to redeploy anything.
Normally, all web applications get deployed when you install a Patch or FixPack.
The web-app server seems to work, however, I can’t access the “Document” tab through BI LaunchPad and the overall performance seems much slower pre-upgrade (sp2.9). I will post a pic of the “Docment” tab error and the error code.
“Document” tab error:

You should redeploy all your Web Apps through the method we discussed earlier. Please ensure that you are executing the wDeploy tool as ‘Run as Administrator’ (right click on wDeploy and choose ‘Run as Adminisrator’).
You do not need to update the JVM. With the server upgrade, JVM is updated automatically on BO servers.
As far as performance configuration is concerned, you can do that once all your applications are up and running.
I can not access any links through CMC though I can see them.
When I try and access a pre-existing WEBI report through BI LaunchPad history I can the error below via screenshot. Should I redeploy? When I deployed, I did not run “as Administrator”.
I installed the bo software sp4.0 on the web-app server like I did on both of the nodes. It did ask for a CMS info like while installing on the two nodes. How can I perform a customer web-app install? I never saw that option…Should I go back and uninstall the sp 4.0 software off of the web-app server?
Seems like your configuration is not very clear. You mentioned that you installed BO4.0 software on 2 nodes minus the Web Application server, which you installed on a separate node.
If this is not how you performed your install, please clarify.
If that is how you did it, then you need to remove BO4.0 software from your 3rd server and install only the Web App server on that node.
Also, is there any particular reason as to why you want to keep Web App server as a separate node?
I installed ENTERPRISE04_0-20007504.EXE (which is underneath SBOP BI PLATFORM (ENTERPRISE) > SBOP BI PLATFORM 4.0 > SBOP BI PLATFORM SERVERS 4.0) the following on the three servers below:
web-app server
clustered node 1
clustered node 2
file name is ENTERPRISE04_0-20007504.EXE
Was I supposed to install the client version on the web-app? I attached some screenshots to where I downloaded the files.
unfortunately that isn’t an option at the moment. Can you point me to the place where I am supposed to install the web-app custom install? You recommend that I uninstall the server version of sp4.0 from the web-app server, right?
If you want a separate Web App server(on Node 3) other than the 2 nodes, then yes you will need to uninstall BO 4.0 from Node 3 and only install Web Server components (run Custom install to do that)
Okay. I am going to uninstall the sp4.0 software from the web-app server then rerun the install again and look for the custom-install option. I’ll post an update when applicable.
