Virutal memory on DAS

Neil Buranakanchana wrote

DAS is running jobs fine for us currently , but every morning when I come
in, I see the error: running out of virtual memory etc. So I go onto
control panel and see that 43mg is allocated to virtual memory. Can I
simply increase the amount of virtual memory randomly??? Or is there a
method to the madness?

There was an article in the Oct. 1998 customer newsletter that dealt with
managing DAS memory. The url for the news letters is

We implemented the proposed solution, although for a different reason than
yours, and it seems to have worked fine…

Neil,

Every Business Objects job could easely eat up 25 to 30Mb of virtual
memory. When running 4 at the same time you can make the calculation
yourself. The DAS job however should not be that memory hungry. As
Windows NT (assuming that you use that OS) is quite effectively using VM
you should set it high 128Mb on a 64Mb, or 256Mb on a 128Mb machine.
Ofcourse there is a limit to the “normal” amount of VM you should assign
to the server. In order to prevent nasty effects from memory leaks and
Database servers running backups at night I have our DAS-service
shutdown every night.
