I have reports that seem to have become disconnected with the list of values. The help buttons tell me that “The Values button is dimmed if the universe designer did not associate a list of values with the object in the query condition.” They used to work. How did it get disassociated? How does one re-associate the LOV with this variable? Any ideas?

This has happened to me many times. I haven’t identified the exact sequence of events that is causing the problem to happen, but I have been able to resolve the problem by deleting the condition in the report and then recreating the same condition.

No need to delete the condition. It’s sufficient to re-enter the same prompt… but don’t ask me why…
One thing that causes the problem is the scripting tool. If you use a script to refresh the report, then want to manually refresh the same report, the values button is dimmed. According to Business Objects, this is a known bug.

I have found that this can happen if the user has no write rights in the userdoc folder (in BO: Tools/Options/File location/User Documents). This is because of the way BO create LOV-files: First BO tries to create a LOV-file in the userdoc folder. If that is impossible BO attempts to use the folder where the document is located. If that isn’t possible the LOV-file is created, I think, in the TEMP folder on the client-machine. BUT if BO finds the corresponding LOV-file in the userdoc folder but cannot write to that file, the list of values is not shown. This can happen if an other user, who has write-rights to that userdoc folder, had used and refreshed this report. I don’t know if this behaviour of BO is a bug but it is certainly annoying.
