We use a product called BMC to run all of our scheduled production jobs and my director wants to know whether we could somehow link BMC to the BCA schedule. Does anyone know if this is feasible and the amount of time and effort that would need to be expanded to accomplish something like this?
I’m not positive what senior managment is thinking. I know they are investigating whether the IT operators could be more involved with the scheduled BO reports and they currently use BMC for all scheduled jobs and are not familiar with BCA. Currently I monitor the BCA queue and resolve any problems but I’m the BO Administrator and not part of the IT operations group. If we replaced BCA with BMC our user groups would no longer be able to schedule their own reports but maybe senior management wants that to happen. If we did use BMC instead of BCA could we even put the reports back in to the BO repo DB without voiding our BO support?
I do not know how the BMC Scheduler works, but if you manipulate the Business Objects repository directly you usually void your maintenance contract. You can achieve scheduling using VBA macros (which means you need to use a Windows based system).
Thanks for the feedback. I told my manager that I didn’t think this was a very feasible idea and that if they really want IT operators involved in scheduling that we should teach them the BCA console. I think that involving the operators will just create more work for me in the long run.
