Using alert or conditional formatting for a required prompt

Is it at all possible to create a “warning” for a required prompt that has not been completed by a user? If an alert isn’t possible, what about conditional formatting?

This is all part of the application. If a prompt is mandatory and has not been filled out:
a. there is a red arrow next to the prompt to indicate it still needs to be filled out
b. user cannot execute the query (OK button is disabled)
