Hi, is it possible to upgrade to the latest Tomcat version while maintaining our current version of BI 4.2 SP9? Is it forward compatible with Tomcat versions?

yes and No,
you can upgrade tomcat to latest tomcat subversion.
for example, if your BO version is running tomcat 8, you can update to the lastest revision of tomcat 8.
