Upgrading to 6.1b from 6.1a

I am wondering if there are any apparent pros/cons to upgrading to the next SP. My company is currently looking over the possibility and I was wondering if I could get some feedback or insight (good and/or bad)

Thanks!

Bug fixes! But you should upgrade to 6.5.1, which is the latest available version if you do upgrade. That said, if you aren’t suffering as a result of any bugs in 6.1.a and you don’t need any of the new functionality in 6.5.1 then why fix what ain’t broken? 8)

Thanks Nick…
Well thats exactly why I’m asking about the upgrade… Let’s just say that myself and my development team have been experiencing these “quirks” on and off throughout BO, that has prompted us to consider upgrading to the next version or SP.

6.1a was a bad release. Lots of issues. 6.1b resolved many of them, 6.1.3 resolved even more.

However, 6.5.1 is really where you should be. It resolves most of the 6.1 issues and has some additional functionality. It’s not perfect, but it’s better.

You should be warned that upgrading to 6.5 will involve upgrading the repository

If you don’t want to do that 6.1.3 will do

True, it’s not a monster change though. Did you experience problems with that aspect of the 6.5.1 upgrade?

No not personaly. We support a number of clients all on different versions. It depends on what you are using. If for example you have finally got publisher to work on 6.1a after 2 days of unsuccesfull installation attempts it’s not worth risking the upgrade on full client for relatively minor advantages.

Hi,

I was in 6.1.b with lot’s of bugs. Some are corrected in 6.1.3. You should go to this release. Going to 6.5 means you have to form again.

regards

What does this mean?

The 6.5 upgrade from other V6 releases is trivial.

Go from 6.1 to 6.1.3 is trivial. But 6.5 is a major release with new possibilities such as multi queries, web supervisor …

regards

The point is that the upgrade is straightforward when going to 6.5.1 from other 6.x releases.

I added a new thread specific to the 6.1b-to-6.5.1 upgrade - would love to get your thoughts.

Happy New Year,
Chris
