Upgrading Designer from version 4.5 to 2008

Hello,

I am going to do an upgrade from version 4.5 to 2008, and I am wondering if it is an upgrade or is it a migration. Should I just do a fresh install?

Can you run dashboards from version 4.5 on 2008?

Hi,

You can get an upgraded license at a discounted price (depending on the version you are running), but yes you do need to do a fresh install. If you wish you can have both running on the same computer, as Xcelsius 2008 was rebuilt from the ground up.

Now they do advertise that you can open your 4.5 dashboards in 2008 (though please note that if you save it in 2008 you cannot revert back to the 4.5 version, so be sure to save an extra copy in 4.5), but our experience has taught us that its sometimes easier to just rebuild the entire model as the migration is anything less than seamless.

Last, a few quick notes:
Be sure to make sure that you install Service Pack 1, Fix Pack 3 (go here for more details: http://everythingxcelsius.com/2009/02/xcelsius-2008-fix-pack-2-is-here/).

Be sure to also make sure you pick the correct licensing for Xcelsius 2008 as they have changed it up quite a bit.
