Upgrade to BO 5 from Bo 4.1

Hi All,

Can you tell me all that is involved to upgrade from BO 4.1.5 to BO 5 ?

We presently have this environment…
Oracle 7.3.3
SQL*net 2.3.3

…but will soon be moving to Oracle 8 and Net8 ( I suppose)

Last year we upgraded from BO 3.1 to 4.1 and it was an easy task. The Supervisor has a simple upgrade button which upgrades all Universes, Users from 3.1 to 4.1. The only pain though was converting the documents ( the pain aggravated as BO tech support didnt support 3.1)

How easy is it going to be ?

Please let me know your experiences, suggestions and comments.

Thanks
Ashish

We just did it a couple of weeks ago. Currently we have both 4.1 and 5.0 running. We just copied the repository in Oracle, ran a scan and repair on the copy, then signed into the new repository with 5.0 and let it upgrade the repository. To upgrade the universes we just opened the 4.1 universes in 5.0 and exported them to the 5.0 repository. Same thing for the documents, just open them in 5.0 and save them. So far we haven’t come across any problems with the conversion (knock on wood!)

Before that…do we need to go onto BO 5 just because the database will now be Oracle 8. Arent BO 5 and Oracle 8 compatible ?

Hi Ashish
Few days ago I sent a message requesting the same info, but I didn’t get any answer, If you get to know any tip or thought to keep on mind, pls let me know. We are just moving from v4.1.5 to 5.0 but I haven’t moved my reports yet. We are working on Informix Connect 7.3, SetNet7.2 TIA & Brgds

There is a PDF document on the BO Tech website which gives you Frequently Asked Questions, a pre-install checklist, a recommended update procedure, advice on mixed 4.x/5.0 deployments, post-update tips, troubleshooting, and the basics on converting your custom scripts to VBA macros.

That should help.

Mike,
The pdf document you mentioned; do you have an address for it. I can’t seem to find it on www.businessobjects.com.
