Upgrade to 2.5.2 from 2.5.1 on Server

We are trying to upgrade Webi to the 2.5.2 and are getting an error COULD NOT FIND orb_r.dll IN PATH.
We found it on the disk and installed it but Webi still will not work.

IS IT A MUST THAT YOU UNINSTALL Webi on the Server BEFORE you install a new version?

I haven’t gone through a 2.5.x to 2.5.(x+1) upgrade, but on the 2.0.x upgrades, the installation instructions DID require an uninstall before the upgrade installation.

I’m curious - did the installation panel show 2.5.2 on the left, and 2.5.1 on the right? Or did it act like it was a fresh installation?

I JUST did this 2.5.1 to 2.5.2 upgrade last week and Ruth is correct! You MUST do the UNINSTALL before doing the upgrade. If you don’t everything looks like it installs fine if you don’t but you won’t be able to connect to WEBI from your browser.

I believe that the install panel did show 2.5.1 on the “target” side and 2.5.2 “to install” side of the panel if you don’t do the uninstall first.

It was strongly suggested to us by BO that we uninstall all BO files from the server before installing 5.0.2. So we did that, and didn’t encounter any problems with the install. However, after doing the install, we found that BCA would not run any of our previous reports. The case has been escalated to Paris. Has anyone else seen this?

I had the same error in many of my testing installations of WebI here, but I can’t remember if it was on a fresh install or a reinstall. I do recommend the fresh install.

However, you can always search the disc for the orb_r.dl_, rename it to orb_r.dll and put it in the c:\program files\business objects\server\system 2.5\bin and in the c:\program files\business objects\server\orb 2.5\bin directories.

It will save you the time in the install…

Our Server Administrator did find the file on the disk and put it on. But Webi still wouldn’t come up. The Admin guy is going to do an uninstall and then install the new version thanks to all your help!!!

You have to uninstall.

When you “upgrade”, it deinstalls the old version first. Unfortunately, it doesn’t reboot. The deinstall can’t complete until you reboot because orb_r.dll is being used. If you simply install again, it removes some of the files you just installed.
