Hopefully you don’t mind me asking these questions. I think I’m asking something slightly different than what I can just find out myself from reading release notes etc.
I was about to embark on a process of upgrading our DI 11.5 servers to DI 11.7. However after coming to BOB to read up on it a bit I suddenly realised I was a couple more releases behind with DI than I thought I was! I hadn’t even realised DI/DS 3.x had been released… I should really work out how to get those product email notifications.
Do you guys recommend going from 11.5 to 3.2? Should the process be as straight forward as an 11.5 to 11.7 upgrade? (Note: I’m going to install the software onto a clean box… only the repo’s will need upgrading).
And does 3.2 look/work much differently from 11.5? I.e. if all our ETL designers who are trained in 11.5 login to 3.2 will the recognise what they are working with or is it a massively different product? I tried a quick Google search for some screenshots but came up short!
We are in the process of looking at this upgrade also, so I may be able to help a little and let you know how we currently plan on actioning the upgrade.
I have seen and used DS 3.1 a little and the interface for the designers is very similar to the 11.5 we currently use - but there were significant changes in the admin console, mainly additional funcationality from what I can remember.
We are looking to test on a clean box, backup/restore the exisitng repositrys across to the test box and then upgrade them. This will allow to test all the jobs work as expected before repeating on the live box…
Hope this helps - I would also be interested to hear from anyone who has recently manage the upgrade and what there experience were…
From a developer perspective, they’re mostly the same.
However, there could be substantial differences in the generated SQL and other behaviors, between 11.5 and 3.x. Hopefully the differences are all positive (improvements), but some may be unexpected. Be prepared to do a full regression test.
Also, you have many more performance tuning options (starting with 11.7 and continuing into 3.x), so you might use this time to look at your slowest dataflows and tune them, since you’ll be doing testing…
Our DBA are attempting to migrate to oracle 11g.
BO guys said that it’s not supported by BODI 11.5 AIX so we are preparing a full migration to DS 12.2.2.1 and then test Oracle 11g.
Did any one already migrated to DS 12.2 ?
Did we need new license?
