we are planning to upgrade from BO XI 2.0 to BO XI 3.1 .
If anyone had already gone through this upgrade process please guide us on what we need to look for before hand.Also where can we get the documentaion on this transition.

The process should be straight forward except for security. The security is different in XI R2 and XI 3.1 and so should be your primary focus. Hope that helps.

The guide basically mentions about using import wizard and stuff like this.But i would like to know if i have to do anything to exsisting reports ,universes and users and groups when we migate.Is it not like after update to 3.1 from 2.0 i just open the objects(reports /universe) and they are updated to latest version?
we are upgrading the BO,that means we would not have a source and a destination?

We are implementing 3.1 now and everything migrated fine and reports/universes worked as expected.
As Zack mentions, the biggest issue was security, though the folder/object permissions seemed to be okay. I did have to reset security on the universes, for example.

I have just done a trial import from 2.1 to 3.1 and the messages reported by the import are confusing. I have deliberately not chosen to import groups and users and I don’t have anything other than and groups in my 3.1 target. I can therefore understand messages of the form 'failed to import rights for ’ where that group isn’t on my target. However I also get this message for the groups and for some, but not all, of the universes and connections that I have migrated. I can’t detect a pattern in why some are ok and some aren’t - are there any ideas?
