As we are having a requirement of upgrading BODS3.2 TO BODS 4.0,
Could you please clarify the following doubts?
Do I have to install the BODS 4.0 on the same system or other system
If it is other system, how to migrate the content of BODS 3.2(rapid Marts) to BODS 4.0 .
what is the prerequisites of upgrading to BODS4.0
as in reporting tool (bo xi 3.1 sp2) can we directly upgrade to BO 4.0 Or we have to come up by upgrading service packs ,fix packs one by one ( like sp3 >SP4> SP5 ------BO 4.0)
5)What will be the risk means (possible errors) while upgrading ?
or any further information which can help during the above process
How are you running your RMs - Execute Preload or Generate Execute - I would recommend you create new repositories then migrate the xml or atl, namely because of the join issue Data Services 4.0 Join Issue - Question?
also keep in mind that DS 4.0 requires new transports to generate and run the ABAP code

Prior code may run a bit different (i.e. Generated ABAP, Pushdown SQL)
does this mean I will need to re-generate all my ABAP and transport it, or will the new/upgraded DS 4.0 environment be able to use the ABAP code as generated from BODS 3.2?
The current ABAP WILLwork with the new transports if you are running Execute Preload However I have seen instances where the current ABAP WILL NOT work if you are running in Generate and Execute
I personally would treat this as any other upgrade in terms of testing especially if running in GE Also if you do not update the ABAP be prepared to receive warning messages in your error log that warn against the difference in version of ABAP with respect to the Transport components.
Also if running in GE (or EP for that matter) you may not be taking advantage of optimizations in the ABAP generation.
