Is it possible to update the descriptions used in oracle over to designer? We have an 11g database and wanted to see if it would be possible to create default descriptions in all the Business Objects fields, such that when we click and drag an object, there is already a description for it?
I’m assuming the likelihood of this is rather quite small. However, I do know there is an automated method of doing this with DI (although we are not using Data Services). Any suggestions?
You could certainly use a two stage process of dumping them into Excel first then using the tool in BOB’s downloads to update them but imho you’re missing a big part of designing a universe if you’re simply turning database columns into objects.
Thanks for the suggestion. We plan on fully leveraging Designer with all its features. However, we wanted to leverage the field descriptions in Oracle as a baseline for the descriptions we put into place for the universe objects.
What are the tools that you are referring to that can update the universe objects?
