Universe Changed

I have several (150) old reports that point to a universe. Now there is newer universe created from scratch and that universe has a different name. I want to point all my old reports to that newer universe with a different different name. Now I know I can Manually do this but that would be
Anyways I was hoping to find a automated solution and any other solution.

Below is one type of solution, Wait and see if others can chip in with more solutions.

Take a copy of the new universe.
Save the old universe as the new universe and export.
Point the reports at the ‘new’ universe.
Save the copy of the new universe as itself and export.
Save the new universe as the old universe and export.
Point the reports at the old universe.

IN webi report in edit query-document properties-you can directly change the universe name to which ever universe you want.

Can you explain that a bit more, I can’t comprehened what that achieves other than having to repoint 250 reports twice ?

Hi, I have some 100+ webi reports based on universe A. Now we have got a newer universe B, which is a replica of universe A but contains less data, hence faster to execute reports based on this. Now, in full client, we can directly change the universe name in VIEW DATA option. Is there anything similar in webi? Otherwise it would be a pain to recreate all those 100+ reports. Please suggest. We use BO XI R2. arnabpaul2k (BOB member since 2008-04-02)

Changing Universe for a Webi Report

No not really.

Dave Rathbun’s post about halfway through that thread makes sense and Reddy69 a couple of posts later atests to the fact that it worked.

However, the bit you quoted (or used) from the last post in that thread seems specific to fixing a problem steveayres had as per the second last post in that thread where his miagration to from 6,5 to XI didn’t work to well.

Anyway…I think the original poster of this thread should go with Dave Rathbun’s solution

Changing a source universe is a feature of XI R2 (it was not in R1 if my memory is correct). I have not seen any scripts to do it, so you’re looking at a manual update of each report. Here’s a suggestion that will save you that effort:

1. Make a backup in case this fails
2. Save a copy of Univ A under a new name
3. Use Designer to “Save As” for Univ B and overwrite Univ A
4. Export Univ A. It is now the smaller Univ B but under the name of “A”, so all of your reports should be switched
5. Use Designer “Save As” to save the original universe “A” under a new name and export. It should be recognized as a new universe

This is sort of like the famous “shell game” where you are moving things around under the covers. Be sure to make a backup (BIAR file) of the reports and universes so you have a fall-back position if this does not work as expected, but I think it should.
