Uninstall BOXI 3.1 SP3 (Windows Server 2003) issue

We have an issue uninstalling BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.1 SP3 (full build installation) with FP3.4 installed from a Windows Server 2003 and would appreciate any help you could provide.

Had a few issues on the install, received Windows Installer error but thought we had a good install of the second server in a cluster but could not get the Central Configuration Manager to display the SIA at first. Went through the process to add the SIA on port 6400. Received an error that there was a port conflict. Fixed that issue but the cms still would not start. We could see in the First Server Admin server page that the secondServer.cms was enabled but not running. After attempting to fix the issue for more than 4 hours we decided we would try to uninstall and re-install because of the error we had received on the initial install.

We uninstalled FP 3.4 and Crystal Reports, rebooted the system but received a message that another instance of install was already running and we needed to wait until it completed before continuing when we tried to uninstall BusinessObjects XI 3.1 SP3 (full build installation) using the add/remove programs.

Since the Add/Remove Program didn’t work we were hoping we could install over the top of what was already there so we executed the setup.exe. We were prompted to “Change”, “Repair” or “Remove” the application, no matter which option we chose we were prompted for the CMS name, port, and Administrator password. Entered the proper info and received an error that it cannot connect to the CMS. We manually deleted everything in the install directory and manually cleaned the registry entries and tried this again, but still got the same prompts.

We are using 2 Windows Server 2003 systems and 1 MSSQL 2005 database server.

Is there anything we can do to get this removed from the system other than rebuilding?

Thank you for your help.

I’d google microsoft install issues - there are registry keys you can kill to stop it from thinking an install is still in progress.

You could delete all the BO keys under HKLM / Software / Business Objects and remove the install target folders - but I think you will still have to clear out the pending install.

I’ve done it before, but it’s been a while - Microsoft also has an installer cleanup utility - that may help you here.

Good luck!
