Tracking user activity?

Is there any way we we can track the user activity? Specifically, list of users logged into WebI, how many times they have logged in so far and what they are doing? Thanks

If you go in to the Webi Admin panel, you will notice that the different applications have an “Audit” checkbox available. The audit feature is off by default, but can be turned on.

There is a wealth of discussion in the archives on the audit feature. Instructions for getting in to the archives are in the footer of every email message from the list. Happy hunting!

There is also a specific “Audit” product from BO called “Auditor” (formerly “Watchdog”)… It is available for Oracle RDBMS only; an MS-SQL version is in beta testing.

Dear Tahul,

this is very simple… Use the SDK and make them log-in through the SDK. At each login you make an insert into a relational database such as Oracle. Whenever a report is requested, change the URL to point to a redirect to a page that logs the report request.

We have done this for one of our clients and it is working really well…

Hope this helps

Ebiexperts have developed a tool who can track not only Webi, Bca & Zabo users, sessions and actions, but BusinessObjects / Zabo report and query contents like universe objects, conditions and sorts used by users on server AND clients side.

It can enhance Webi audit AND Business-Objects Auditor (ex watchdog), provides Bo true reports (not Webi ones), works on every major database and is less complicated to install and manage

Look http://www.ebiexperts.com/products/default.htm or for more information send them an e-mail to info@ebiexperts.com

The Auditor product does a great job of exactly this and much more.

My personal advice, don’t spend alot of money on an auditing tool for BO. Try to use what’s there and as little as you can get away with. Auditing too many things will cause performance bottlenecks.

During Beta testing BO recommended building a seperate repository forAuditor and deploying it (and WebI) on a seperate server) so not to scew the stats being generated by the production system. If you use the auditor product then all 4 universes will be pointed back at the production repository and audit database. Deploying Auditor on your production system will cause its statistics to go into the audit database thus not giving a true picture of usage.

How they do the licensing in unknown at this time. It was recommended to bundle a WebI server license with the product so this type of deployment can be done legally. If they took the suggestion is unknown…

Yes Bo Auditor creates like 100 reports in the repository, and is no more than reports and universes on webi audit database and bo repository.

You can just use Webi audit (furnished with webi for free) if it is enough for you.
Then enable tracing for the minimum needed and use an universe who is furnished on BO CD (Vol1\Freeware\audit\Audit.unv)

But if you want to audit Bo stand alone users or wants to know which universe class and objects they are using (in BCA, ZABO, WEBI) you can enhance Webi audit with Ebiexperts product who link bo full client users through DCOM to Webi audit database.
Also you will get predesigned universes and reports on Webi audit database. have a look at http://www.ebiexperts.com/products/EnterpriseManager.pdf or info@ebiexperts.com

Good luck

I heard $25,000 per server monitored. And not bundled with a WebI license, as I understand it. A little much, if you ask me.
