Hi,
We just installed the Data Services 4.2 client on a PC. It worked fine. However, now (a couple of weeks later) the following error appears when we try to open that application, both normally and running as administrator:
ERROR: Cannot open Trace File "C:\ProgramData\SAP BusinessObjects\Data Services\log/tracelog" for write acccess. Please check the file permissions and restart the application (BODI-1170028)
The tracelog in that location is not a read-only file, according to windows. Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Brian

Group or network permissions that are preventing you from accessing it maybe. Try deleting it using Windows Explorer.

The user running the DS Service should have FULL Permission on /%DS_COMMON_DIR%/ which will be basically in C Drive now over when compared to Install Drive.
Thanks,

Is the DS service owned by a network account, local account or LocalSystem?

I found this note and it solved this problem for me.
SAP Note 2770660
Apparently there is a batch file that addresses this issue.
