I think nothing to worry on these move⌠What I heard is that âBusiness Objects will operate as a stand-alone business as part of the SAP GroupââŚAny thoughts ?
I would worry more if Oracle bought Business Objects.
SAP has its own reporting tools but they are not as robust as Business Objects. Besides, no one on this planet is stupid enough to write off the humongous BO/Crystal user base. I can see this more as a vertical integration.
Nevertheless, expect to see some staff reduction after the integration.
I wouldnât even expect staff reduction. SAP are in a growth phase - trying for a huge leap in market share and undergoing massive software development. I wouldnât be surprised if they asked Business Objects to ramp up development. There may be some losses in administration.
SAP currently has 1,200 emplyees in their BI unit. All of these will be joining Business Objects upon close of the deal. I agree with Steve. This will be fun to watch.
Now BO will have to start developing more crappie products, SAP sucks.
And that âBO will stand on there own legsâ⌠- for how longâŚas long as it takes for the Germans to take over.
Then at the end you will have BO Xi15 with CMS in a SAP db and delivered with a SAP license, only way that SAP can sell more, to give there products awayâŚ
All thatâll happen is that SAPâs reporting tool will be dropped and replaced in favour of XI.
Just think of all those SAP sites that will need to be migrated acrossâŚ
Got to chuckle somewhat because the company I work for are implementing SAP and fully expected to move away from BO in order to use the SAP offering. Donât think thatâll be happening now somehowâŚ
The announcement stated that Business Objects will continue to operate as an independent business unit of SAP. But of course, I donât expect them to say anything otherwise. They canât be THAT stupid. Right?
Now whether they can keep BO as a separate unit down the road is yet to see. But there is no way BO will be âindependentâ. If one company owns another company, the owner company will have a lot of influence on the strategic planning of the other company. And in my humble opinion, that is NOT âindependentâ.
I do not think so, because there were a lot of rumors that âsomeoneâ is going to acquire this company as well, and this âsomeoneâ is IBM. So, there is no smoke without fire
You obviously havenât driven my car. Just because Cognos gets taken over doesnât mean you wonât be able to work with it for the next few yearsâŚ
Hm, but is it a bad thing?
At least BusObjects has not been bought by Oracle, and being part of SAP will open a lot of new opportunities.
Business Objects will become THE reporting toool for all SAP clients
And Cognos being an option, just because SAP is making a bid for a friendly takeover for BusinessObjects? I would not choose COGNOS for that reason alone if I were a customer.
BO as a company canât stay independent as one of the benefits of the deal will be cost savings. The other benefit is that SAP finally obtain a good reporting tool.
We wonât know whether itâs a bad thing or not until a couple of years from now I reckon. It could turn out to be something advantageous for both all parties involved or something disadvantageous, depending on the decisions made along the way.
I reckon not many clients choose a product on the fact that the holding is this or that company, be it SAP/BO or IBM/Cognos. At least, I wouldnât.
