Is there any easy way to find out the names of the joins and tables for each respective tables they are joined to. Say for example i have a “country” table in my universe and this table is joined to 40 other tables and i want to know each table names and respective columns for that table they are joined to. Is there a way? As you know if there are lot of joins they become messy and hard to identify the relationship. Thanks in advance.
Well i can start documenting going forward. But in my case i want to know the existing joins to the tables. As you know even selecting the lines there are so many joins its hard to identify
You can uncheck all the check box except Joins in Print/PDF options tab (available under Tools -> Options menu) and save the universe in PDF format. That PDF will contain information only about joins.
Click the ‘View List Mode’ icon. You will see 3 different panes, one for tables, one for joins and the last for contexts.
Select the Table in the tables pane on the left, and then click a small triangle icon(upper one) pointing towards Joins pane. This should show you all the joins related to the table.
You will see the small triangle(s) between the tables and joins pane.
– As I said earlier you need the utility that I said in my earlier post… it generates lots of information about the Universe and easy to use. You can play around in Excel by adding Data Filters both on Table and Context to figure out the contexts.
In Designer Tool you cannot do both contexts and tables at the same time… either one will disappear… when you try to find the joins.
