Suppressed columns and exporting to excel format

Hello…

I have a couple of rows/fields that are suppressed in CR X2. My goal is to export to excel and be able to expand on the hidden rows when needed.

My end users would like to be able to expend/expose the hidden rows/fields to drill down on the details if neccessary because these rows/fields make up the totals.

My rows/fields are at the detail level. Ultimately, I don’t know if CR X2 can export into excel and have the ability to hide and unhide rows just like excel…how would one set this up in CR? Is this possible in CR?

Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks much.

i’m guessing no one has an answer to this question? is it even possible?

Thanks.

Donot suppress the section. just decrease the database field height to as small as you can and then export. the row will not be displayed in excel(hidden as 1 extra row), but user can drag the row/increase the height to view the details.

Thank you for the suggestion but I think I may have to clear up my problem…

There is no section suppression in my design. I’m merely trying to have the flexiblity of exporting a column into excel so that the users are able to hide/unhide the COLUMN (not row) when they desire to see the details.

Conditional suppression on a field isn’t difficult…that I can do and have found a way to completely rid of the empty column when exported to excel. From my previous experiences, if a column is suppressed, excel still has a cell for it…therefore, there would be an empty column. But I’ve bypassed this.

My only hurdle now is to suppress the column yet when exported to excel, the option to hide/unhide the column stilll exists.

I really don’t think this is possible with CR’s current excel export functionality.

Any other thoughts?
Thanks again.

It has been my experience that the suppression you want is not possible, in Crystal the fields are either suppressed or not, the conditional hide/unhide would need to occur in Excel.

Unfortunately I do not have any help to offer you - I would however be very interested in finding out how you managed to get rid of the empty column of a suppressed field when you export it to Excel.

Would you be so kind as to share?

Thanks,

Kevin.

Sorry I missed this one.

Instead of suppressing the Column/ Field, why not just change its color? I would change it to White if I haven’t changed the background color in my report or sections. You can move other fields on top of the “hidden” fields and still shouldn’t have any problems. You might need to Move the hidden field to the back, though. This will work great with the Excel - Data Only feature. For those doing the regular Excel, you might want to warn the user.
