Is it possible to tap into a hierarchy at different levels depending on who is logging in? For instance, a national manager should be able to tap into the top level of the hierarchy while a local sales rep should only be able to tap into the lowest level of the hierarchy.
If this can be done without scripting, can it also be done in WebI? Can it be done at all in WebI/

Here’s an idea…
Set up your hierarchy objects with different security levels. Set up your users with different security levels.
A sales manager could be the top level (Private) and the top level of the hierarchy would also be Private. The lowest level salesreps would be Public, as would be the lowest level of objects. This should prevent the lower level sales reps from even seeing the higher level objects, and therefore not allow them to drill there.
The limitation of this is there are only 5 levels of objects.
This solution - if it works - would work for both Webi and BusObj.
Try disabling the highest hierarchy object(s) for the required group of users. This is certainly possible in BO4.1.3 & 5.0, I’m not sure about WebI though. (I’m afraid I can’t quite remember how to disable individual objects for users, but it CAN be done.)

Based on what I recently was taught, you should be able to control who has access by determining access to the universes on which the hierarchies are based. Using your most complete universe (i.e. the one that has the lowest granularity) you can make a copy and eliminate the objects (or hide them) that you do not want to have viewable at various login levels. Each universe is then associated with the person or groups of people at a specific level of access and given a unique name. This allows for many tiered hierarchies and provides a way to customize access to each level. It also makes access administration easier because access rights can be changed as needed.
