SMTP AUTH Retirement

SMTP AUTH is being retired soon by Google and Microsoft:

Has anybody had any success in any of the workarounds suggested by Microsoft?

Still somewhat flabbergasted that SAP still haven’t implements SMTP OAUTH in 4.3:

Our email team is saying that this will not apply to us.

We have a hybrid Exchange environment where somethings are in Exchange Online and some are on premise. I am not knowledgeable about the exact configuration so I can’t say if they are using the workaround mentioned in the linked article or not.

Thanks for the feedback John

Frustrated Scot,

According to SAP KB 3248171 - What is the impact of Microsoft deprecation of basic authentication on BI schedules with SMTP destination? (published November 2022)

  • The BI Platform SMTP authentication does not use BASIC AUTHENTICATION that the Microsoft deprecation article mentions.
  • The SMTP Destination for BI Platform uses SMTP AUTH extension
  • There should be no impact on the BI schedules with SMTP destination.

Also, SAP KB 3487001 - Supporting oAuth for SMTP authentication (email) in BI 4.x due to deprecation of SMTP AUTH (published June 2024)

  • oAuth is not currently supported for SMTP authentication in BI platform.
  • A switch to oAuth is currently being evaluated, for further updates see the following influence request

Thank you for Sharing.

Thanks for the feedback. I’ve already voted on the influence request and left some feedback.

Seems Microsoft have extended the support of SMTP AUTH until the end of the year:
