server group installation

Hi all,
Apologies ,if this was posted already but could not find one.

we are in process of installing a distributed architecture for data services 3.1 in new client place.
I want to create 3 different services on 3 different physical servers each of over 4 GB RAM group them and run my jobs on this for effective performance .

so question here is should i have 3 different licenses if yes i am sure my client would not prefer it.
is there is any other way of improving using a single physical box ( mono architecture)

please advise if people already faced any problems in two scenarios.

Thanks in advance
shawn

It depends where the bottleneck is. You can run DI on 100 servers and it will not get any faster if the target database was the bottleneck right from the start.

My general guideance is: Install DI on the target database machine, it is big enough to handle the data. And you have one network hop less which usually is the bottleneck.
